Application of Maslow's hierarchy of needs to Employee Motivation
The
base of this class of theories comes in part from Maslow's hierarchy of needs,
a normal concept in psychology which outlines the basic, psychological, and
self-fulfillment needs of an individual’s (McLeod,
2020).
Maslow (1943) stated that people, including employees at organizations,
are motivated by the desire to achieve or maintain the various conditions upon
which these basic satisfactions rest and by certain more intellectual desires.
Physiological or
Basic Needs
These include the basic physiological needs of a human. Hunger, thirst, sex, shelter, and other bodily needs. Managers should pay their employees enough salary to cover their basic needs. Employees should have access to recreational and dining opportunities.

Safety Needs
Employees consider their working
environment to be free of threats and harms once their physiological needs are
met. Managers should provide employees with job security, a safe and sanitary
work environment, and retirement benefits when it comes to Needs safety
requirements.

Love
and Belongingness Needs
When a person’s self-centric needs are satisfied, it
will starts to look into the relationships the person is dealing with. Now the
person has what he wanted for himself will start to pay attention to others
surrounding him. The need for affection comes into play with the necessity of a
family, sweetheart or a friend.

Esteem
Needs
Maslow defines esteem needs as having two
components. The first involves feeling self-assured and good about oneself. The
second component is feeling valued by others; that is, believing that our
accomplishments and contributions have been acknowledged by others. When
people's esteem needs are met, they feel more confident and recognize the value
and significance of their contributions and achievements. The below image will
elaborate Maslow’s esteem needs.

Self-Actualization
Needs
“A musician must make music, an artist must
paint, a poet must write, if he is to be ultimately at peace with himself. What
a man can be, he must be.” (Maslow,
1954).
Self-actualization refers to a sense of fulfilment
or living up to one's full potential. One distinguishing feature of
self-actualization is that it appears differently for each individual. For one
person, self-actualization may entail helping others; for another, it may entail
accomplishments in an artistic or creative field. Self-actualization is
essentially the feeling that we are doing what we believe we are meant to do.

Respectable explanation about the application of Maslow's hierarchy of needs to Employee Motivation Divangi .As further more According to the idea, needs are placed in a hierarchy of significance, starting with physiological requirements and moving on through safety needs, social needs, esteem needs, and self-actualization needs(Low & Pt, 2018).
ReplyDeleteThank you Shamalka.Further, People are motivated to achieve certain needs and that some needs take precedence over others. Individuals must satisfy lower-level deficit needs before progressing on to meet higher level growth needs (Maslow,1943).
